Yesterday was my second “No Work, Just Zelda” day, and it was good. I didn’t make as much plot-based progress as I had the day before; I only beat one temple. Instead, I spent nearly the whole day mapping the gameworld. Think about that: I spent hours sailing thea sea and drawing maps of the islands. In the process, I found a few heart container pieces, which was good.

I don’t get it. When the new visual style for the Legend of Zelda on the GCN was announced, huge hissy fits erupted. I was a little skeptical, but every time I saw more, I liked it. I guess I don’t get what the superior alternative was. There were those videos of Ganondorf and Link fighting from Spaceworld 2000, but did people really want that for Legend of Zelda? Zelda is not a game meant for photorealism. Even the “more realistic” Ocarina of Time was pretty cartoony. Do people want Zelda to look like a fantasy Resident Evil? I just don’t get it.

yet more characters?!

Well, after stalling briefly at a boss battle, I finally triumphed and defeated the big robot thingie that looked a lot like a futuristic Volkswagen gone awry. It was a thrilling victory, and led me to enjoy another thirty minutes or so of cut scenes. I like that. Ah, plot!

I think I’d romanticized Sonic in my mind. Sonic was the cool character in the really fast game that my friend had. I guess that made me want to have a copy of Sonic. Well, now I have Sonic. I have so much Sonic, it scares me.

so much sonic!

I never owned a Genesis. I never owned any kind of Sega until I bought a Dreamcast, and I bought the Dreamcast after they’d stopped making Dreamcast stuff. All my memories of playing Sonic the Hedgehog are blurry and indistinct. I remember thinking it was really hard and really, really fast. I never really wanted a Sega, so I can only assume that while the speed impressed me, the game itself didn’t.
