my life as a pile of stuff
I took this photo of my desk the other day:
I was pretty happy with how well it summed up all my hobby activities. I could probably write a blog post on each of these things and feel okay about it. Here’s a breakdown of the junk on my desk.
Role-playing game stuff
- purple bag of dice and pencils
- black and red volume of Dyson Logos’ Magical Theorems and Dark Pacts
- octagonal dice rolling tray (yeah, that’s a thing)
- five sets of Fudge/Fate dice
- a copy of Fate Accelerated just barely visible on the red notebook by the binoculars
Other games
- a few Decktet decks
- a copy of The Quiet Year (it’s in that burlap bag)
- poker chips, in part for playing All My Diamonds
- the rules to Go
- a copy of New Rules for Classic Games
- Dice Games Properly Explained
- Great Book of Domino Games
Computer stuff
- a copy of Thinking Forth
- my Arduino Starter Kit
- a copy of Smalltalk Best Practices
- an Erlang sticker
Random stuff to read
- my iPad, which spends about half its time as a comic book reader
- a copy of Future’s End from Free Comic Book Day
- The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind — quite a book!
- Stylized: A Slightly Obsessive History of Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style
